At the western end of the Feneos Valley, on the foothills of Mount Chelmos, the artificial Lake Doxa stands out. Created in the 1990s as an irrigation reservoir, it quickly gained a new identity due to the picturesque landscape formed by its creation. With its crystal-clear waters and the fir-clad slopes that reflect in them, it rightfully earned the title of the top tourist attraction in the mountainous region of Corinth.
The area is justifiably called the "Swiss Alps of Corinth," as its alpine beauty, combined with rich waters and dense vegetation, has attracted increasing numbers of admirers and visitors.
The lake, covering an area of 475 acres and filled for the first time in December 1998, sits at an altitude of 900 meters among the fir trees, nestled between the mountains of Chelmos and Dourdouvana, directly opposite the slopes of Mount Ziria. It collects water from the Doxa stream and surrounding ravines. The lake is surrounded by lush black pines that reach down to its shores, creating a magical Swiss-like landscape.
At the heart of its natural beauty lies the picturesque church of Saint Fanourios, connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. The deepest point of Lake Doxa reaches a depth of 70 meters.
