Kryoneri

Kryoneri is one of the largest villages not only in the municipality of Sikyonion but also in the semi-mountainous and mountainous regions of Corinthia. It is situated at an altitude of 740 meters, 16 kilometers south of Kiato.

The inhabitants of Kryoneri are primarily farmers, with the most significant crops being olives, sultanas, and Corinthian raisins.

The village extends mainly across two slopes, through which runs a stream that originates from the central spring of the village, the Ano Krini. This stream is a tributary of the Elisos River, which flows through Kiato and empties into the Corinthian Gulf.

The central stone-built church, in the Byzantine style, is dedicated to the Holy Trinity and was constructed around 1880. The marble altar screen is the work of Tinian artisans.

The village actively participated in the 1821 Revolution. General Kolokotronis, together with the Minister of War Londos, arrived at Souli and appointed Stergiopoulos as the leader of the Kryoneri group. To the south of the village stands the Monastery of Lechova, a historic monastery that today serves as an oasis of tranquility and harmony between humanity and nature. Its gardens, full of various delicacies, trees, and bountiful fruits, are surrounded by rich forests of plane trees and firs.
