Stymphalia

Kionia or Stymphalia is situated on the western outskirts of Lake Stymphalia, and near the present village lies the ancient settlement, notable for its distinctive architecture. It is believed to have been continuously inhabited from the 4th century BC to the 19th century AD, as evidenced by fragments of ancient materials found embedded in the walls of the houses. The spring located within the present village, around which a large and famous festival is held from September 11-14, is mythologically connected to Artemis and Hera. A watermill operated beside the spring from 1906.

Near the village is also the archaeological site of Ancient Stymphalia, where excavations have revealed significant ancient sanctuaries.
