Mati

Mati, also known as "Gioza" – a Turkish word meaning "eye" – is a village built at an altitude of 840 meters, on the northwestern slopes of Mount Oligyrtos, at the southern edge of the Feneos plain.

Most of the village's residents are engaged in agriculture and livestock farming, cultivating crops such as wheat, potatoes, and beans.

The village became a battlefield in 1825 during the Greek War of Independence, when Greek forces successfully repelled Turkish troops attempting to invade Feneos from Arcadia.

Within the village's boundaries lies the famous "Hercules Sinkhole," which, according to legend, was created by the hero with a single punch to drain the waters of the Olvios River, which had flooded the Feneos plain.
