Holy Church of Saint George in Psari

In the heart of the oldest neighborhoods of Psari stands the historic Church of Saint George, whose consecration, according to an engraved plaque preserved at the southern entrance, took place in 1862. The church was built using traditional techniques by skilled stone masons from Lagkadia, as local tradition suggests, and its masonry incorporates marble architectural elements dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries.

Additionally, scattered architectural fragments can be found in the churchyard, supporting the village's oral tradition that an even older church once stood in the area but was destroyed by an earthquake.

The church is particularly noted for its intricately carved bell tower, added in 1911, which stands as an exceptional example of the sculpting mastery of the Lagkadian craftsmen. The church's interior decoration is also well preserved, reflecting the artistry of its creators.

Visitors who pause outside the church on the stone bench should be aware that this was once the gathering place for the village council, where assemblies were held, and decisions were made on all significant community matters during the 19th century.
