Lykeio Ellinidon

Lykeio Ellinidon of Kiato – with the consent of the Lyceum of Greek Women of Athens – was established in November 2007. It initially operated as a regional section, and since March 2012, it has been functioning as a branch. In the few years of its existence, it has undertaken the following activities: national traditional dances, songs and costumes, a percussion section, chess, embroidery and sewing, visual arts, cultural activities, and programs supporting family and children. The customs and traditions of Corinth are systematically studied with the aim of preserving them for future generations. There is also an effort to document and highlight the traditional costumes of our region through presentations.

Participants of all ages residing in our area are involved in the above activities. In recent years, the Lyceum of Greek Women of Kiato has collaborated with the legal entity for education and culture "MICHONI."

The dance groups of the Lyceum have participated in events organized by the Municipality of Sikyonia (the headquarters of the Lyceum), other Lyceums, festivals in various parts of the country (Athens, Corinth, Xylokastro, Naoussa, Kalamata, Argos, Patras, Chios, Skopelos, Kefalonia), the "PAVLEIA" organized by the Holy Metropolis of Corinth, events at local Holy Churches, and at the ancient theater of Sikyon. Additionally, the children’s and teenage groups have danced in many festivals. The dance teams have also appeared on programs of state television, regional and local stations, performances, and events in collaboration with the Cultural Foundation of the Piraeus Group, the historical weaving workshop SEN, the Corinth Chamber of Commerce, and events such as the reenactment of the Exodus in Aitoliko. Every four years, dancers from the Lyceum participate in the opening ceremony of the NEMEA Games before the President of the Republic. Furthermore, the dance group and the choir have performed before the Archbishop of Athens and all of Greece, Mr. Ieronymos.

Social Actions: Offering goods to the fire victims of Ilia, weekly hosting and providing dance lessons for children from "The Smile of the Child" (2010-2012), organizing an evening for the "Social Grocery" of the Municipality of Sikyonia, organizing an evening for the nationwide union of volunteer blood donors in the Municipality of Xylokastro-Evrostini, participating in an evening for recycling in our municipality.

Educational/Pedagogical Actions: Creating seminar circles for parents and young couples, seminars on Art History, museum visits, and myth reenactments for children, providing swimming lessons for children, offering space for visits from young students to get acquainted with tradition, organizing talks on various topics: tribute to Mothers, International Women's Day, nutrition and medical advice, social issues affecting today's society.
