The imposing stone church of Saint Athanasios, the patron saint of Lavka, stands simple yet majestic in its place beneath the rich fir forests of Skipiza for over 130 years. It was built with the initiative of the priests of the time, between 1888 - 1889, with contributions and donations from the residents of Lavka, on the site of an older church that once stood in the area. The church is entirely constructed from stone in the basilica style, and its bell tower was built by the engineer brothers Papathanou.

Inside, the church features a stone-made iconostasis adorned with decorations crafted by the renowned Lycurgos, separated by two rows of simple columns. Most of the icons are works by Athonite painters.

The church celebrates its feast day every year on May 2, and is also known as "May-Thanasis." Together with its stone courtyard, the elegant memorial by artist Fani Sakellariou, and the stone fountain, it is the symbol of Lavka and a point of interest for visitors and travelers in the region.
