Goulas Tower of Kaisarios

The "Goulas" tower, located on a low hill 1700 meters southwest of Kaisari, is a fortification structure from the medieval period. The history of the tower is not well-documented, and although Kaisari is listed in the Venetian census of 1700, there is no mention of the tower. However, according to historians, the name "Goulas" seems to have Arabic origins, which can be found in other regions of Greece as well. The term was in use during the late Byzantine period (for example, it is mentioned in the Chronicon of Morea in reference to the fortress tower of Araklovos). This leads to the assumption that the tower may date back to the 13th or 14th century.

However, some have proposed that the tower could be ancient due to the presence of large hewn stones among the ruins, which likely have ancient origins. Today, the tower, which had a circular base with a diameter of approximately 18 meters, has completely collapsed, creating a rubble mound about 8 meters high, now covered in vegetation. It remains an intriguing monument, shrouded in mystery from the haze of history, and a point of interest for visitors who seek the hidden secrets of the Corinthian land in every inch of it!
